  I completed an in-service training program at Eskom with accordance to the VUT Department of Mechanical Engineering's requirements for practical part of mechanical engineering qualification. This training is done in order to prepare national diploma students for work environment. During this training, I was offered good opportunity to learn how to handle and use most of hand tools and hand powered tools. I was also exposed to different types of machines, such as Center Lathe machines, Milling machines, band saw machines and many more. I gained knowledge on how to improve and ensure safe working conditions at workplace at all the times. This was achieved by inspecting the work place daily before any work can commence. I was also responsible for conducting quality check for all the measuring equipment (such as: Gas analysers, Thermometers with their Thermocouples, Barometers and air flow meters) with accordance to Eskom's standards. I spent most of my time working in a team made up of Engineers, Technicians and Trainees who were responsible for conducting plant performance tests for all of the Eskom's coal fired power stations. During this tests I was responsible for preparing the equipment(setting up the equipment for the test), sampling flue gases and ash from the Furnaces, Economisers, air heaters... etc. I was part of a team of wokers who conducted the following types of plant performance tests: (1) Boiler leakage test (2) Combustion test (3) Air heater leakage test (4) DIMBO test (5) STEP test I was also responsible for house keeping, monthly facility inspections, filling of work history, and also inventory control.
