I also work to provide information, expertise and insight to policymakers at the local and state levels. A major imperative for me was to support and address the challenges facing schools in urban settings in ways that would enlist the interest of the interns in becoming agents of change and support. Field Instructor My role was to teach, evaluate, and support teacher interns to develop standards-based practices in planning, teaching and assessment, and in becoming fully participating members of the teaching profession. In addition, I supported the mentor teacher in problem solving and providing effective mentoring practices. As well, I worked closely with the cluster leader, subject area leader, program coordinator and team leader to understand and communicate current program practices and policies, making myself available to pass along information provided by course instructors about planning and other course requirements. Human Diversity, Power, & Opportunity in Social Institutions (Fall 2004 – 2007; 2009, 2010; 2012) -- Comparative study of schools and other social institutions with a focus on the social construction of diversity (e.g. race, class, gender), maintenance of inequality, and political, social, and economic consequences for individuals and groups.
