I worked with CK while helping map the as-is and to-be processes for VU's roll-out of the Callista Student Management System. I found him to be very friendly and dedicated colleague, sensitive to both business and system requirements.

Victoria University (VU) is a multi-sector institution (higher education and TAFE) with excellence in teaching, training, research and scholarship. As the primary university in Melbourne's western region, VU deliver courses, research and engagement activities that are locally relevant and globally significant. My responsibilities here were concerned with ensuring that the electronic transformation layer correctly mapped data from source systems into the ultimate reporting system. This was achieved by directly involving all stakeholders in the mapping process via forums and one on one meetings. These regular meetings highlighted that there were gaps between the initial design and the user’s expectations and requirements. Closing these gaps and ensuring that others were prevented was a key part of my success in this role. Where possible I was responsible for developing the process to close these gaps (eg development of an Access database to perform some of the functions required of but not possible in Callista).Success in this role meant that VU could rely on the integrity of the data and processes they were using to make key business decisions

    • Acting Faculty Executive Officer- Finance
      • Jun 2009 - Jan 2010

I joined VU at the start of the 2010 budgeting process. My role was to manage the development and implementation of the Faculty budget. To successfully complete this assignment I was required to analyse and report on variances of current year results to current year plan so that these variances could be mitigated in the following plan cycle. This involved identifying the key drivers behind the business performance and ensuring that they were appropriately represented and impacted in the new budget system.During my time at VU, I was also drawn upon to assist with the three month-end reporting cycles. Working closely with the Head of School, I was able to provide valuable analysis on the School’s operations in a greatly reduced timeframe. On completion of this assignment, documented procedures were in place to ensure that system comprehensively modelled the activities of the business during the planning cycle. I am proud that improvements which I initiated will ensure that VU’s reporting activities are completed quicker and with a greater degree of accuracy than ever before.

Adecco is the world’s largest employment services group. The company has a number of subsidiaries and divisions which specialise in specific area of recruitment, consulting and outplacement. These subsidiaries include the Ajilon, Lee Hecht Harrison, O&I, Icon, Jonathan Wren and Tad brands. My role here was to radically overhaul and develop the existing finance function utilising a combination of my accounting and systems knowledge. My major achievement was to reconstruct and reconcile the company’s balance sheet. This enabled us to identify major deficiencies in the existing controls and processes. Once corrected, we were then able to build on this result by redirecting efforts previously spent on reconciling and number crunching to activities, which fostered detailed analysis and ensured regulatory compliance. Other aspects of this role included:- • Analysed business performance (P&L- Actual vs Forecast/ Budget) • Prepared and distributed Management Reporting pack • Coordinated end of month processes • Maintained General Ledger and Balance Sheet reviews • Liaised with both internal and external customers (external auditors and bank agencies) to meet their reporting requirements • Prepared and reconciled quarterly BAS & CAS

Ladelle is a National distributor of home accessories and has partnerships with major retailers- Myer, Spotlight, K-Mart and BigW) The challenge in this role was to get the sales team and the import team to share a common reporting platform. The synergies involved in this would mean that, if successful, we would be able to get the company’s results out in a more timely and meaningful manner. Also, we would be able to positively affect these results. This was a unique opportunity to use my people skills to get people talking ! Previously the company would experience shortfalls in supply (the importers weren’t aware of the sales) or situations where we were carrying too much working capital (supplies were ordered for sales which were already complete). By working closely with these teams I was able to find common pain points and deficiencies in their processes and identify reporting methods which would help alleviate these problems. Day to day tasks included: • Generating monthly sales reports for the Sales Team • Generating sales rebate for major account sales commission and royalty for license products • Reviewing Profit & loss, distribution to line manager and resolve queries • Maintenance and analysis of the cash flow • Maintenance and reconciliation of customer rebate accounts • Preparation of board pack for Senior Management Team • Preparation and reconciliation of monthly, quarterly and yearly statutory (Payroll tax, BAS, CAS and FBT) • Maintaining General Ledger and Balance Sheet reviews • Being involved in budgeting and forecasting process

Claytons are the largest Kitchen manufacturer in Australia with offices in Queensland and Victoria. My colleagues at Claytons came from very diverse (often non-accounting) backgrounds. My ability to communicate with people at all levels was a great help in dealing with the resulting complex interpersonal dynamics. Working in the role of Mentor, my proudest achievement was to develop a simple and legible set of Profit and Loss accounts which could then be used by all of my colleagues. I was able to sit with them, individually and in small groups, and help them to develop a good understanding of the commercial meaning behind the numbers. The outcome of this engagement was that the reporting process was greatly improved and embraced by all users across the company. General responsibilities:- • Supervision of 4 accounting staff • Oversee and co-ordinate day to day accounting functions • Maintenance and reconciliation of Debtor Finance ledger
