Working within the UCC PLUS+ Schools Outreach Team, providing academic supports to students from DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) schools. The aim of this pre-entry team is to support students in learning about third level education, encouraging to fulfill their individual potential. The UCC PLUS+ Schools Outreach Team facilitates initiatives throughout the academic year. I work closely with the Schools Outreach Co-Ordinator and Homework Club Co-Ordinator, providing administrative support in the planning of events and the facilitation of events throughout the year. These events include: Homework Clubs, science camps, a week-long college experience initiative for TY students & primary school engagement. Homework Club Senior Tutor - UCC PLUS+ run homework club in Cork City DEIS schools over 7 week periods per academic semester. I accompany UCC student volunteers to their designated school, ensure that the correct Child Protection guidelines are being followed, provide support during the homework club session and liaise with school personnel. I also aid the training of UCC students prior to them going out to schools. Easter School - This is a week long event run in April. Students from all UCC PLUS+ link schools across Cork, Kerry and Waterford are invited to experience college life. This event encourages students to explore post-secondary education options. LearnSmart - I assist in the delivery of a study workshop in the Cork City DEIS schools. This workshop is aimed at 1st and 2nd year students to encourage good study technique early in their secondary school experience. Professor Fluffy Programme - This programme is aimed at primary school students to become familiar with the concept of third level. We travel to primary schools to deliver a workshop about further education. Student Achievement Awards - These awards aim to celebrate the potential of students in the categories of Irish language, English and a foreign language.
