I worked on and off with Kevin Vinsen at Thales for over 7 years. In that time he was repsonsible for all aspects of Software Development from hands on coding, architecting large critical systems, bid development and leading large software teams. In that time he was always the source of knowledge and answers for any and all technical queries - no matter how obscure! I have no hesitation in recommending Kevin for any senior technical architect or consulting role.

Kevin immediately impresses as someone who proves "genius", "down to earth", "geek", "pratical" and "damn nice bloke" are all compatible terms. Kevin could quickly pick up on a thread and follow it through with enthusiasm to practical, conclusion and not just in the software domain. Always worth exploring ideas with Kevin.

Working in the Data Intensive Astronomy group on the design of data intensive HPC systems in support of the ICRAR signature themes of HI, Variable Universe and Data Intensive Research. The construction of the SKA and its pathfinders puts significant computational and power consumption constraints on the design of the computer hardware. My work researches the challenges in the areas of: data flow; storage design and optimisation; database integration into HPC; and low-latency scheduling for ultrascale visualisation and analysis on HPC systems. Leading the integration project with the Large Synoptic Sky Telescope team in Stanford and the PanSTARRS team at John Hopkins University to share data with ICRAR. This involves integrating radio astronomy and optical data. Speaker of the ACS “Education Across the Nation” lecture series. Describing the ICT challenges facing the SKA and ASKAP projects. Taking part in Education and Outreach activities with school children from Y4 - 12 across Western Australia. This involves working with Schools and the Department of Education to highlight the challenges facing the SKA project in the ICT arena, not just the physics super-science. Supporting the YIT initiative of the ACS by attending functions describing my work at ICRAR. Show less
