Kevin has a unique ability to level up everybody he works with. Everyday Kevin unblocks his coworkers (myself included). He enables everyone to be more productive and move our team further in achieving our goals. Kevin is one of the best coworkers I have ever had. He challenges me to learn and be better each day. I am never afraid to ask him questions or for his advice on problems I am solving. If I’m blocked I know Kevin can help me move forward. He’s incredibly pragmatic and doesn’t get caught up trying to use his personal favorite tools. He’ll get the job done without burning time and money. I can’t imagine where our team would be without his contributions. Kevin is awesome, and you’d be very lucky to have the opportunity to work alongside him.

I have had the good fortune of being led by Kevin at Rakuten Ready wherein he brought not only business acumen and immense technical depth in software engineering but also the ability to mentor and place the team in a position of success. Through clear communication, timely guidance, and creative brainstorming sessions, Kevin has helped me and the team overcome technical impediments by providing solutions to complex software engineering problems, and facilitating a nurturing environment for our career growth. I am grateful for his proactive leadership and sincerely wish him the best in all his future endeavors.

Luxent is a development and services company focused on cloud-based solutions for small to mid-size companies. As lead Technical Consultant and Developer, my role was developing durable tools and technologies to support the functional consultants and account representatives. I also architected technical integrations utilizing our custom application framework, our integrations middleware platform, and configure third-party integrations platforms. I typically did not interact with end-customers except in a supporting role for the tools and automations I personally have implemented. Show less

Start with Bakersfield was the dba for a venture capital investment management platform aimed at investing in, supporting, and building innovative technology-centric businesses in Bakersfield and Kern County. Despite community interest, deal-flow was never established as the talent pool in Bakersfield was too immature to justify funding projects. In 2018 another Venture Capital firm Kern Venture Group was launched in direct competition, and equally struggled to find local investments, instead expanding their scope to all of California. Mershon Enterprises was a Bakersfield software consultancy specializing in growing mid-sized companies through improvements in efficiency and process automation. Mershon Enterprises focused on three key areas of business services: standardizing internal operating procedures, smoothing cashflow through payment and accounting integrations, and providing ongoing stability through customer retention strategies and management reporting. More than a custom software development company, Mershon Enterprises also offered easy out-of-the-box widgets and automation packages for marketing and design firms wishing to focus on design and stay away from back-end development. Mershon Enterprises also worked in partnership with the Bakersfield and Kern community, raising awareness of local tech businesses and talent, promoting better tech education strategies, and directly training technical talent and providing support for other firms within Kern County. I cofounded this software consulting company in partnership with some other trusted developers, and together we pursued consultation business in web development, industrial protocols, and device integration. At its peak we had four client contracts keeping us busy, while continuing to pursue freelance opportunities and new projects. We also published several open-source projects under the Slixbits, Inc. name. While Slixbits Inc. continues to exist and I continue to be an owner, I am stepping away from my role as Secretary due to idealogical and creative differences, to focus on my own venture, Mershon Enterprises LLC. Ramsgate Engineering and ProGauge Technologies are sister companies, and I worked under both titles depending on the circumstances. I was initially hired to build an application layer to utilize an existing database model, which focused on oilfield exploration and statistical analysis. This statistical analysis application was known as ProGauge Prime. After developing ProGauge Prime to a fully-featured release version, I was joined by two novice programmers. Together, we designed a new data-collection device called the ProGauge ICP (Intermediate Communication Portal). The device functioned very similarly to a cellular phone, in that it possesses the ability to perform limited tasks on its own, but relies on an Internet connection and the computational power of our server cluster at the main office for heavy lifting. Our clients claimed that this service matched, and in some cases surpassed, the functionality of high-end SCADA (Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition) systems, for a fraction of the cost. Data was collected from PLC's and primitive sensors, and synchronized across encrypted connections to our server cluster for post-processing and analysis within ProGauge Prime. The device also played host to an easy-to-use operator interface for manual data collection and realtime alarm reporting. As of August 2012, we had about a dozen deployments throughout California, the middle-east, and Africa, and a team of 4 junior programmers, 2 seniors (counting myself), and 4 additional part-time consultants participating in side-projects as needed. Later, the company's overall focus changed to pursuing more international jobs, so domestic marketing efforts were frozen and several of our deployments were decommissioned. Show less

I was a contributing developer and shareholder of a retail Internet business presence in the Philippines. The company had two halves: developers, and business. The business end never came through on their obligations to establish contracts for payment processing, inventory, shipping, and accounting. The project ended March 2013. I assisted in the development of TrueShip ReadyShipper, which integrates with UPS, FedEx, and USPS. The program is written in Java, and uses a MySQL database. The software allows users to import orders from various online stores including Yahoo and OpenCommerce, supports basic accounting packages like QuickBooks and web applications, and features data mapping tools for importing/exporting custom CSV, XML, and ODBC sources. I was initially offered the position of web designer for this company until they discovered my collegiate major is Computer Science. I was then officially hired as a programmer and web designer to build an updated web-based database-driven version of an existing (but outdated and only partially functional) application which had too many bugs. That project was completed in less than a year. Later, we started a new phase of the project, migrating away from the web version in favor of a modular Java-based application. I originated the idea and put together a proposal to get the project approved. The hybrid program was then sold in 2006 to a third party company who would be taking over the design process, ending my job for the company. Show less
