  I have two novels, Kumakana published in 2017 (Crotchet Quaver) and Poetic Licence in 2022 (Crotchet Quaver).Kumakana (2017) is an Australian fairy tale that engages with magical realism, myths and legends, and adventure, to explore the effects of colonisation, ecological damage and environmental impacts on the Australian bush. Set in the deep south of Western Australia, it pursues the experience of a young girl, who carries a unique spirit, when she is discovered by the enigmatic guardians of the natural order, the Gronups and the auspicious timing of her appearance. Includes talking animals and spiritual concepts that have no basis in Indigenous cultures, but borrows from Indigenous language to afford the reader a glimpse of what might have happened in times long-ago.Poetic Licence (2022) is a contemporary political thriller that turns, ultimately, upon the issue of asylum-seeker boat arrivals in WA waters in the lead up to the 2013 federal election, and the contentious political treatment of those on board at the time. The novel delves into political and institutional corruption, the gaps between of homelessness and extreme wealth, and the political manipulation employed beneath the surface in the purruit of winning elections at all costs. It deals with creative practice as it applies to creating story in all its forms: literature, stage, comic, film, gaming, multi-media, poetry and song. The program runs in different formats, covering the critical theories of story craft, applications to practice, editing knowledge and results in students completing work for publication.
