      • As a member of the educational opportunities team I was responsible for managing the University’s outreach programmes for primary schools. This involved managing and organising visits on to the university campus as well as overseeing all in-school activities. • I managed devolved budgets from the wider Employability and Educational Opportunities departmental budget for each of my projects.• I developed and delivered many presentations to an extremely diverse array of audiences including school and college pupils, careers advisors and the senior leadership team within the University. This enabled my presentation skills to develop to a particularly high standard.• I line managed a team of Graduate Advocates and work closely with them to ensure that we meet Access Agreement targets on each programme, whilst also providing them with opportunities to develop professionally.• I have developed and delivered an introduction to mandarin programme aimed at KS2 aged pupils. Working with Chinese volunteers from our student body, the programme introduced mandarin and Chinese culture to pupils over 10 sessions in a fun and engaging way. The feedback received from the schools I worked with and the Chinese students was uniformly positive. • I developed and delivered training for Graduate and Student Advocates to support the successfully delivery of programmes. This included the training and supervision of the Chinese volunteers who worked on the mandarin programme.

      • Teaching in China, where last minute changes are often thrust upon you, requires great flexibility. Throughout my time teaching I was confronted by many unexpected changes to classes and teaching schedules at short notice. • Having received no training as a teacher I was required to learn on the job. The positive feedback I have received from my employer is evidence of how well I adapted to working in a totally different work environment and culture. • To be a successful teacher in China it is important to build a solid working relationship with your Chinese co-teachers. The positive feedback I received from my employer demonstrated that I was able to achieve this.
