I could not be happier to recommend my personal friend and former colleague Kevin Gabinete. Kevin had worked on the Aspiration front end engineering team for a year before I had joined as team lead in April 2019. For the better part of this year I had the privilege of seeing Kevin’s software contributions make their way from mock designs to production ready applications. Kevin has been such a valuable resource in delivering software from the product team’s roadmap, his absence will be felt here as there is little in our front end public-facing codebase that does not have Kevin’s fingerprints on it. Kevin was generally tasked with supporting and iterating on several applications that power Aspiration’s marketing landing pages as well as our customer signup flow. He was also critical in driving our A/B testing efforts which had him supporting our Planout API service and adding new A/B tests to our signup flow based on data from our product teams. Kevin has proven himself a strong Javascript developer contributing to both AngularJS and React applications. The attention level he commits to PR reviews has consistently improved the quality of our software; he is often sought out for this reason. While Kevin’s title at Aspiration was of front end developer, Kevin showed he could easily navigate the NodeJS libraries and toolchains necessary for back end development as well. Kevin’s grasp of build-pipeline and dev-ops technologies such as AWS and CircleCI was also evident during his time at Aspiration. There is no doubt that Kevin will be a strong engineering asset for the next team he joins. Putting aside his skill set, Kevin’s congeniality and sense of humor make him an easy culture fit for any company setting. I recommend Kevin Gabinete without reservations - he would be a stellar addition to any company.

Extracted React application state by creating custom listeners to detect initial state upon loading and any subsequent changes triggered by user input. Transformed parsed data to JSON format that contained component’s name, state and props, using custom window events to the Chrome extension developer tool, enabling data visualization. Stored React application state using doubly linked list, which allowed linear travel between current and previous state change data points, ensuring current state would only point to its previous and current state. Leveraged D3.js library to cleanly display heavily nested component data, including component name, state and props, as a tree-like hierarchical view of the application’s structure. Analyzed React component data stored in cache to compare client-side state changes & determine components that are potentially being re-rendered unnecessarily, which were then highlighted on the DOM tree visualization. Implemented continuous integration using Travis CI which ran application’s Jest test suite to ensure failing builds were not merged into the master codebase. Show less

Spacr | Non-residential space rentals Implemented user authentication using React/React Router, which enabled conditional rendering of the application’s different sections, while Redux dispatched login credentials submitted by the user and stored a token upon successful authentication. Resolved asynchronous requests through Promise-based thunk middleware which allowed synchronous code to run with asynchronous HTTP requests to the server for authenticating user information stored in the PostgreSQL database. Created a database in PostgreSQL to take advantage of it’s strongly typed schema and indexes/joins performance to manage relationships between distinct types of users, spaces and event information, while also ensuring ACID compliance for sensitive user data. Axis Report | News aggregator Created a slider feature using React components and Material-UI where each slider increment corresponded to a set of keywords & categories, which were then sent to a filter function to display the returned results. Used Redux to store news articles fetched from external API’s, as well as the filtering algorithm that received slider input and dispatched the relevant articles for rendering. Polls | Survey manager Built an application using React/React-Router to conditionally render views for creating polls and displaying poll results.
