I worked as Senior Planning Officer in the policy team with the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC), focused on delivering the UK's largest regeneration project. The primary focus of my role was in supporting the development of a new Local Plan for the OPDC area, and the evidence and supporting studies which underpin it. I played a particularly key role in developing the spatial strategy of the Local Plan and wider development strategy. This included leading production of the Channel Gate Development Framework Principles, a masterplan framework for a key new site with the potential for a vibrant new high density residential led mixed used community of 3,100 homes. With responsibility for the infrastructure policy area, I project managed production of the Corporation’s Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP), a key document to support both the revised Local Plan and delivery strategy for the Corporation, which accounts for over £2 billion worth of infrastructure across the lifetime of the development. As lead officer for the area of planning contributions, I coordinated OPDC’s Planning Obligations Advisory Group, a senior officer level group to provide governance on the spend of developer contributions and prioritising infrastructure projects. I also have produced and published OPDC's Planning Obligations SPD. I worked closely with colleagues in the development management team on major planning applications, assisting in pre-app discussions, providing policy observations and advising on necessary conditions and informatives to ensure development proposals contribute to high quality, coherent new places. I also worked closely with colleagues in the organisation’s commercial directorate providing advice technical input to key workstreams to support OPDC's broader delivery strategy. Show less

    • Planning Officer (Policy)
      • Apr 2015 - Oct 2016

I worked as a Planning Officer with the Planning Policy team at Epping Forest District Council, a Green Belt District bordering London. The core function of my role was to support publication of the District’s first new draft Local Plan in over twenty years. The role required me to manage and work closely with consultants in the production of key evidence base studies to support the emerging Local Plan. I played a particularly key role in the delivery of the District's Settlement Capacity Study, Strategic Land Availability Assessment and Green Belt Review. I contributed to drafting elements of the draft Local Plan, including Place Chapters, and played a significant role in the site appraisal and selection process. I was responsible for producing the District's Annual Monitoring Report (AMR) and the collection and maintenance of all data in support of this. Within months of joining, I produced two new AMRs following delays of two years, and completed updates to the District’s housing supply assessment to satisfy statutory national requirements. I liaised directly with Councillors on issues pertaining to Planning Policy and the Emerging Local Plan, supported the staging of Councillor Workshop sessions and helped to secure political support for issues of major contention, most significantly green belt release. I regularly addressed queries from, and consulted with, neighbouring local authorities, government agencies, developers and the general public on planning policy and issues relating to the emerging Local Plan Show less
