The first Junction Arts Festival happened not long after I moved to Launceston and was a big influence in staying here. Yes, Junction is a lot of fun but it also stretches the city’s exposure to contemporary art in really creative and memorable ways that are also relevant and reflective of Launceston’s community. I’m joining a fabulous team and look forward to lifting the profile of Tasmania’s contemporary arts scene to the world and showing people how we have good times in Launceston. My focus is both understanding the issues impacting Northern Tasmania, and to provide information, advice and referral to products and services available for business. What drew me to the role is my interest in how businesses use science and technology innovatively to improve their productivity and competitiveness. My region goes from Smithton in the north west and Queenstown in the West to St Helens in the east, and includes Devonport, Burnie, Launceston, George Town, Scottsdale and King and Flinders Islands. I actively promote the availability of services and programs; maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders in my region and ensure a free flow of information about products/services available for business. Grinning Cat is a small business I run with my wife Sarah organising mini-festivals, boutique events and weddings in Tasmania. Our clients include Bay of Fires Wines and the Design Tasmania Centre. Grinning Cat is also my DJ name. I play lots of different genres and have a 'festival' sound developed over years of gigs and record collecting. I've uploaded lots of mixes which you can listen to online at http://www.mixcloud.com/grinning-cat/ Grinning Cat is a small business I run with my wife Sarah organising mini-festivals, boutique events and weddings in Tasmania.
