I have known Kevin for more than eight years. Kevin was a co-worker and a friend during our joint tenure at SMIC School in Shanghai. Kevin is one of the hardest working teachers I have had the pleasure of knowing in my twenty years in education. As a friend, colleague, and teacher, he is steady, accessible, responsible, thoughtful, reflective, and diligent. At SMIC School, Kevin was a jack-of-all-trades. In the two years I knew him he taught the 6th grade World Geography, 12th grade Economics, and the Economics elective. He was also the Cross Country coach as well as the faculty advisor for the Economics Club. Kevin served as a homeroom teacher every year he was at SMIC and was one of the most responsible homeroom teachers in the school. I have had the unique pleasure of sitting in on his Economics elective class for the first semester one year. I approached Kevin at the end of the previous year, telling him that I wanted to get some experience teaching Economics and asked if I could attend his class. He quickly agreed and made every effort to include me in the planning, teaching, and grading aspects of the class. He was a wonderful resource in teaching me more about the discipline as well as sharing his lesson plans and other materials with me. In class, I have been able to witness the ways in which he interacts with students. He accommodates students of varying ability levels well. As our school has many students for whom English is a second or even third language, he is careful to address both linguistic and cultural meanings which students might find confusing or opaque. Kevin, is sensitive to the needs of his individual students but, at the same time, pushes each student to explore and achieve independent of his guidance. In the classroom, he uses a wide variety of instructional methods and methods of assessment. Kevin particularly enjoys using games to teach the fundamentals of economics. His games which teach students firsthand the effects of supply and demand, or diminishing marginal returns, or some other aspect of the discipline are well received. Students are active, engaged, and learning well the key ideas and concepts. Kevin used a Weebly (website) to integrate technology into the classroom, using it to post assignments and resources, but also as a way for students and teachers to interact with each other outside the classroom. As the coach of the cross country team, Kevin did incredible work. Kevin took a program that had inconsistent coaching and built a strong foundation for a program that has lasted long beyond his tenure at SMIC. He takes the time to counsel students and work to get them involved. Students who had never run cross-country before signed up and have come to love not only the sport, but the sense of fellowship and team that Kevin helps to create. Through athletics he has helped them to realize the potential in themselves and uncover a deeper truth about who they were as athletes and a

In this role I am the lead for teams of educators who are teaching semester long courses. Fundamentally the role is constant -- serving as a knowledgeable guide, team leader, resource center, sounding board, and feedback giver to the teams. Primarily this means guiding and communicating for GOA expectations and being the expert in fielding and overcoming day to day challenges in the implementation of the course for the team. This role also serves as a source for evaluation of teacher performance in conjunction with more senior members of the GOA staff. Finally, the role involves direct engagement with the Academic Leadership Team to ensure smooth operation in courses and among teams.

I was one of several writers who composed the Kognity IBDP Economics textbook for release in the late summer of 2020. We were one of the first to produce a textbook compatible with the new syllabus requirements for examination in May, 2022. I worked closely with editors and a manager to write several of the chapters on macroeconomics.
