Forged international partnerships for Dixon via Jean-Louis Forain retrospective in 2011. Originated seven major exhibitions since 2009 that have traveled or will travel to nineteen venues in US and Europe. Grew audience, membership and donor base through enhanced education programs and unique special events. Built ongoing collaborations with other cultural institutions throughtout Memphis. Instituted free Saturday mornings, pay-what-you-can Tuesdays, and a host of family-oriented education programs. Sole or contributing author to seventeen books and exhibition catalogues on American and European art, as well as many articles and reviews. An exhibition, based on his book "Bold, Cautious, True: Walt Whitman and American Art of the Civil War Era" opened in June 2012 at VMFA, Richmond. Since then, Dixon has organized and circulated numerous exhibitions, including Modern Dialect: American Paintings from the John and Susan Horseman Collection, Charles Courtney Curran: Seeking the Ideal, and various ensembles from the permanent collection.
