Kevin Nelson was "that teacher" for me – the one who encouraged me to dive deeper and explore my interests and passions. As a senior in high school, I came into Kevin's AP Economics class having read ~20-or-so business and professional development books (Rich Dad Poor Dad, Good to Great, The Goal, etc.), but I had never taken any steps to start investing, saving for retirement, or anything practical. Kevin had me and the rest of my classmates buying and selling stocks (with fake money), studying compound interest, and thinking about personal finance... And that was all outside of class hours! During class, he was breaking down econ concepts lucidly, and teaching us to draw time series & supply/demand charts. He helped me figure out where to go to school to continue studying economics, and I am glad I took his advice. I am lucky to have had him as a teacher.
