Northstar Collaborative LLC
-
Greater Chicago Area
-
Vice President
-
Jan 2014 - Apr 2019
Northstar Collaborative operates as a results-driven change agent, helping its clients significantly improve performance, resulting in dramatic increases in long-term enterprise value. While Northstar does sometimes participate in targeted mission critical projects, most of our work is aimed at helping clients develop and install the proper underpinnings to help ensure long-term success. Many of our clients focus on industrial automation involving robotics and material removal applications, such as cutting with high-pressure water. We provide the greatest value to small-to-medium size enterprises, where decisions can be quickly made and implemented; this can also include smaller divisions of much larger organizations. Most of our clients will have fewer than 200 employees in the location we’re working with, and their leadership team will typically include 3 to 6 team members. We generally don’t limit ourselves as to the type of business or industry that we work with as we have a fairly well developed network of collaborative subject matter experts that we call upon as needed to help support our clients. Also, we have learned over time that appropriate business practices generally transcend industries, geographic regions, etc. We help well-performing businesses that want or need to improve performance, openly embrace working with enterprises that are encountering challenging times and support the development and implementation of investment harvesting initiatives; however, if you’re just getting going, we’re probably not the right group for you to partner with but we might be able to find you some assistance.

President
-
Nov 1999 - Feb 2011
Joined Robotic Production Technology (RPT) as President in 1999, and continued in that role until late 2006 when the company was sold to KMT Group AB, which at the time was a traded company on the Swedish stock exchange. After the sale I was appointed as President of KMT's global robotics business with locations in the US, throughout Europe and also China. In 2010 we sold the Chinese operation to our then-current General Manager. KMT Group AB became a privately-owned business in 2010, and in 2011 the Board of Directors appointed me as CEO of the overall business. The main customers for these businesses were tier 1 soft trim suppliers to the auto industry - makers of automotive headliners, carpets, instrument panels, NVH components, etc. Main process applications included water-jet, routing, milling, ultrasonic knife cutting and lasers.

Senior Manager
-
1997 - 1999
I hold the self-proclaimed world record for working with E&Y 4 different times. The last time I was a member of their transaction services (M&A) team, and the time before that I was a key member of their professional team providing accounting, tax and advisory services to closely-held businesses. I originally started working with E&Y during my senior year at Western Michigan, and then joined them in their Detroit audit practice upon graduation. I left in 1983 initially to join Stroh Brewery in their corporate development group, and then I joined a small private investment company. I rejoined E&Y in the late 80's as a Senior Manager in the privately-owned business group.
