Few people have the opportunity to work with someone like Kevin. Kevin became a student equipment manager for NIU his freshman year, directly after working for his high schools sports teams at Larkin High School as a student, which shows his passion for sports. I've always admired his work style. Specifically, his ability to work under pressure, make sound judgement calls and treat everyone with respect. Any employer would be extremely lucky to have Kevin work for them.

Working with equipment operations, I am working primarily with the football team. I am given various responsibilities and tasks while working with the equipment operations team. These responsibilities range from setting up and assisting with football practices, packing equipment for road games, helping out with pregame and halftime warm-ups for football games, breakdown from both football games and practices, providing laundry services for football, baseball, wrestling, softball, and gymnastics, and various other smaller tasks and responsibilities. I worked with the wrestling team for 3 seasons as a student manager. During my time with the wrestling team, I was tasked with many duties, some completely voluntary. These duties consisted of attendance, mopping mats before practice, singlet, and uniform distribution tracking and logging, scoring matches at duals and tournaments, filling out the season record verification sheets, recording matches, working in with the wrestlers at practice, coaching, and creating highlights of the team with the matches and pictures I had access to. I worked with the football team for a total of 3 seasons (24 games due to a shortened senior year with the coronavirus pandemic). During my 3 seasons, I was tasked with various duties. These duties consisted of practice setup, recording from the endzone or sideline, packing the buses with trainer's equipment, distributing game pants and jerseys, issuing helmets, shoulder pads, and various other practice equipment, and uploading game film onto Hudl.

During my time as a student manager for girls badminton, I was tasked to keep track of match and set scores of the players for both singles and doubles matches, announce the line up for the duals, call matches to the courts, set up cameras to record matches, and create a season highlight video upon the end of the season. During practices I was tasked with getting courts set up with the nets and getting the shuttles out for the players to grab to start practicing. I ultimately only worked with the girls badminton team during my senior year as the IHSA had moved seasons around due to the coronavirus pandemic and the allowance by the state on sports that were allowed to be in action during the recovery. If I were given the chance to, I would have loved to have worked with the team all 4 years, but was unable to with Boys Track and Field being at the same time in previous years. Show less

While working as an AVID Mentor, I helped out with groups of students on days they were working on Tutorial Request Forms (TRFs), and completing weekly or biweekly binder checks. I worked this job during my lunch period for my junior year of high school with it ending upon the start of the coronavirus epidemic.

While working with the Boy’s Track and Field team at Larkin, I helped out the coaches with the runner’s times and handheld splits, along with keeping track of what they got in their respective events. During practices, I helped out with timing select drills, setting up starting blocks, setting up hurdles, and shagging shot put time to time. There were a few occasions where I was asked to record guys competing in their field events. I had worked with the team for 2 full seasons and the beginning of a third season right before the coronavirus pandemic started up. Show less
