Through my activities at SCK-CEN, I am involved in the training of University students through projects (in BA3, MA1) and supervision of master thesis work. I therefore kept a position in the scientific staff at ULB, as a scientific collaborator. Project management related to research on nuclear fuel: ▫ REGAL: International project on isotopic characterization of spent nuclear fuels ▫ Several projects on modelling fuel behaviour under accident conditions R&D activities related to nuclear fuel modelling – experience in various fields: ▫ Fuel performance codes (thermo-mechanical & neutronics/depletion) ▫ Nuclear fuel behaviour under accidental conditions ▫ Discrete Element Methods (DEM): Atomic-scale & granular material simulations Other involvement in the company: ▫ Member of the Ethical Committee ▫ Member of the IT Governing Board ▫ Lecturer in SCK-CEN Academy ________________________________________________________________________________________________ My R&D activities are typically related to the understanding and modelling of the nuclear fuel behaviour at different scales (atomic, microscopic and rod-scale) under normal and accidental conditions. I am also involved in the characterization of spent nuclear fuel for various purposes (criticality, transport, intermediate storage and geological disposal). I am familiar with various specialized computer codes: ▫ Fuel performance codes: Frapcon/Fraptran (Steady-State & Transients), Macros, Transuranus ▫ Granular material simulations: LAMMPS ▫ Atomic-scale simulation codes: LAMMPS, GULP, Moldy, DL_Poly ▫ Neutronic/depletion codes: SCALE-6 (and further sub-versions) Show less

Investigations of primary mechanisms at play in the nuclear fuel (UO2) by use of atomic scale simulations. Various aspects, ranging from thermodynamic properties to defect creation and migration, have been considered to ensure interatomic potentials, which describe atom interactions, can be used to investigate the complex mechanisms at play in irradiated nuclear fuels. In the second part of the work the behaviour of noble gases (He, Xe) in the atomic lattice has been addressed, considering the importance of the fission gas release phenomenon in terms of fuel performance.
