In May 2018, I launched Philly Who? to huge success! Just 3 months later, I left my corporate job to make the show full-time. For a while, life was great! The show wasn't making money, but that was ok. I had savings. But, about 6 months later, the show hit a wall and stopped growing - and still wasn't making money. I was confused, because I hadn't changed anything about the show or its social strategy. Yet, it stopped growing. I considered shutting down the show completely… Show more In May 2018, I launched Philly Who? to huge success! Just 3 months later, I left my corporate job to make the show full-time. I was confused, because I hadn't changed anything about the show or its social strategy. Yet, it stopped growing. I considered shutting down the show completely and just sticking to freelance podcast production. But... instead, I took 6 months to truly study how great podcasts grow and monetize. What did I learn? The things that you do to *launch* a show actually prevent you from *growing* the show. Like a rocket ship approaching space, you have to drop 90% of the load and totally change gears. After learning this, and implementing what I learned, I managed to take Philly Who? past 100,000 downloads and $100,000 monetized - while only spending 4 hours a week on the show. After 4 years in the corporate world, I learned that corporate life isn't for me. I started developing my first podcast on nights and weekends in February 2018. I launched the show in May, and by July, I left the 9-to-5 to do podcasting full-time. After 4 years in the corporate world, I learned that corporate life isn't for me.
