Teacher of Design and Technology (Supply) - Temporary Contract
-
May 2022 - Present
I strengthened the skill set of students not experiencing standardized learning during the academic year through instruction in traditional Design and Technology. Additionally, I addressed specific learning needs by planning and delivering short-term KS3-KS5 lessons in conjunction with organizing KS3 work booklets. Selected contributions included:• Stablising a department previously experiencing numerous supply subject teachers.• Enriching pupil learning by self-financing and creating a tool cupboard to provide hand tools for learners undertaking practical sessions.

Jan 2019 - May 2022
By optimising instruction and maximising space, I pivoted faculty toward a more modern and fully operational learning environment. I independently wrote risk assessments in accordance with required guidelines for the entire faculty team. As an influential teacher, I influenced student learning by embedding a culture of competition with the KS3 curriculum while sustaining a positive environment. To supplemental traditional instruction and encourage student growth, I coached and mentored University of Reading Postgraduate Pupils. Selected contributions included:• Tailoring existing curricula to meet the requirements of learners by introducing CAD/CAM and redesigning the KS3-KS5 curriculum.• Stimulating professional development opportunities by leading whole-school INSET training on Marking and Feedback and Stretch and Challenge, along with coordinating relevant resources and tools.• Independently planning the three-year L1/L2 Hospitality and Catering qualification.• Reinforcing skill set of an experienced Art Teacher through mentorship during the transition to Design and Technology in a effort to address the specialist teacher shortage.• Impacting instruction of KS5 learners with the NEA by hiring a 'Designer in Residence' to convey supplementary assistance.• Boosting community outreach by connecting with STEM contacts at Cadbury's and Aston Martin to arrange visits promoting Design and Technology careers. • Authoring a two-part article on the promotion of a Design and Technology Department experiencing challenging circumstances for DATA (Design and Technology Association) Magazine.

Curriculum Leader for Design and Technology
-
Sep 2011 - Jul 2018
As a collaborative leader, I guided a team of nine (six teaching staff and three technicians) in executing a balanced curriculum within all of Design and Technology. Student progression was nurtured to aid in the selection of a specialism within KS4 (Engineering, Hospitality and Catering, Graphic Products, Product Design, and Textiles Technology). To support the school in times of staff shortage I taught additional subjects such as PSHE and Citizenship. I also administratively supported the school by coordinating the planning and delivery of the Extended Project Qualification (Edexcel) by the Sixth Form Team and serving as a moderator/examiner for AQA Product Design (GCE and GCSE). Selected contributions included:• Shaping a cohesive departmental team by initiating role profiles.• Orchestrating change through extensive experience in using formative and summative data.• Improving cross-curricular activities (literacy, numeracy, computing, etc.) throughout the department via various applied instructional and learning strategies.• Re-designing and re-marketing pupil planners used within the whole Academy.• Bridging the connection between education and external entities as the lead practitioner for the West London STEM group by establishing strong relationships to promote ongoing delivery of courses and training for pupils.

Leader of Learning for Design and Technology
-
Sep 2008 - Jul 2011
To foster institutional growth I repositioned a traditional and out-of-date department to become a more modern and fully operational environment, including maximising the space to produce more effective teaching. In an effort to ensure ongoing development, I designed a suite of proformas and assisted in the creation of a new ICT extension for the department. Selected contributions included:• Growing educational options by initiating CAD/CAM and re-designing the KS3 curriculum to meet student needs, in addition to incorporating a new KS4 and KS5 Resistant Materials and Product Design curriculum, and two vocational courses in Engineering (the Diploma and the BTEC).• Channeling student focus toward the moral implications of Design and Technology by introducing a new unit of learning.• Encouraging pupil creativity by transitioning weekly homework assignments to homework challenges.

Curriculum Leader of Design and Technology
-
May 2004 - Jul 2008
During my tenure I progressed through several roles to become the Curriculum Leader with a focus on the instruction and development of Graphic Products, Product Design, and Resistant Materials at both KS3 and GCSE. To ensure consistency in instruction I taught GCSE Food Technology due to the long-term absence of a staff member. I coached/mentored pupil teachers. Selected contributions included:• Expanding learning opportunities by introducing a BTEC Engineering vocational course in BTEC Engineering and an early entry Design and Technology format for a gifted and talented group that undertook a GCSE in Year 9, followed by an AS Level in Year 10 and 11.• Building and organising a new facility along with planning the layout of workshops in collaboration with Balfour Beatty.
