Kerrie is truly a systems thinker and doer. I had the pleasure of doing my MBA with her at Pinchot, as well as working with her on a startup right out of school, and her ability to see the whole picture, and then carefully and thoughtfully consider the best plan is an asset. Beyond thinking critically and developing smart plans, Kerrie never hesitates to roll up her sleeves and do the hard work of implementing them - all the while keeping an eye towards the larger team and ways to improve and grow.

Working with Kerrie at Catholic Community Services was a great experience that I can't say enough positive things about. Kerrie is committed to her clients and her team of co-workers, diligent in completing her tasks and always puts in the extra effort. Kerrie is great at finding solutions in difficult situations and works as a positive team player. Sometimes it can be hard to see the reward in nonprofit work, but Kerrie always keeps in mind those she serves and focuses on the greater good being accomplished. Kerrie is an inspirational team member who is always available to listen and give advice when asked. I would love to work with Kerrie again, and I see her achieving great things in the future. The organization that hires Kerrie is gaining a true asset.

ZILA Works is a bioplastics innovator that capitalizes on the renewable benefits of industrial hemp, a low-input sustainable crop, to create durable, safer quality products. The ZILA Works vision is to create a vertically-integrated supply chain and processing network for industrial hemp in the Pacific Northwest, and to pursue innovative product development to spur market growth. ZILA Works will develop technology to add value upstream to farmers, process in a net-zero fashion, and create “cradle-to-cradle” products that are not only efficient, but also essentially waste free. We are currently in the R&D phase to create a hemp-based thermosetting resin developed in collaboration with scientists at Washington State University. The patent pending resin will replace traditional, fossil fuel-based epoxy resins that incorporate toxic materials, including known carcinogens that cause long-term health hazards and negative impacts on the environment. • Developed financial and climate impact models. • Responsible for coordination and grant writing for four government grants, including SBIR grants through the EPA and NSF. At Turtle Press, I was responsible for all parts of running an independent art supply mail order business. This included purchasing, accounting, distributing, managing, sales, customer service, and shipping, catalog and advertisement design, web site design and maintenance. Turtle Press began as a small retail mail order business offering artful wares and decorative paper products. In 1999, I opened a small store in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, focusing on sustainable and fair trade art supplies. Turtle Press quickly expanded to be the only art supply store in the Northwest offering solely recycled and ecologically friendly supplies for the artist with a conscious. As a business owner, I refused to do business with other businesses that didn’t do their part to protect the earth, offering customers an easy way to not only shop local, but also easily purchase environmentally friendly products such as recycled papers, tree-free papers, non-toxic art materials, and products from other micro-businesses. Turtle Press was started on a shoestring, and so grassroots and low-cost marketing methods were essential to get the word out. In 2005, the physical storefront closed, but Turtle Press evolved into Turtle Arts, an internet based business. Show less
