Hands down - Kent was the best backend / API devloper @ CanWeStudios. Always had GREAT ideas RE: architecture, design and implementation.

Kent is a great asset to my team and to the IT community at the University. I worked with Kent on a major project in which he was the lead on UI and all things python, and I was his number 2. It was a little intimidating because Kent's knowledge on python, JavaScript, and CSS is so great, but he was always willing to sit with me and explain his techniques. I learned a ton from him during that project. Even when I wasn't on a direct team with Kent, he consulted with me on projects and trained me in python. He is the guy that people seek out to explain technical concepts or resolve technical bugs. He is also a lot of fun to have in the office!

Lead Server Engineer

May 2013 - Sep 2013
Led a team of three developers in building a new server environment focused around horizontal scalability and resiliency against failure. Created a set of deployment scripts that could be used to automatically build a local environment using virtual machines, or could provision and configure servers in the cloud using Amazon EC2 and VPC. Developed a proof-of-concept algorithm for efficiently storing and calculating geographical distance in a distributed database with limited indexing. Built a distributed peer-to-peer messaging framework for sending requests and receiving responses from a dynamic pool of worker machines. Reduced server costs by more than 60% by eliminating unneeded and redundant resources and converting on-demand servers over to more cost-effective reserved and spot instances. Technologies included: Python, Django, JavaScript, Node.js, Java, Bash, Apache Cassandra, ØMQ, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Ansible, Vagrant, VirtualBox, Amazon Web Services, Ubuntu, Upstart, Git Show less
