Engineering Intern - Developments and Decommissioning, CNR International Jun 2014 – Aug 2014; Jun 2013 – Sep 2013Working as part of the Developments and Decommissioning department for two summers I was exposed to engineering projects in both the North Sea and West Africa. In the first term I formed part of a team planning and implementing the third phase of development at one of CNR’s West African assets with responsibility for:• topside modifications evaluation for umbilical installation• work scheduling for planned downtime• production of the Scope of Work for the umbilical pull-in heading control tender. An exercise to replicate a field appraisal CNR had carried out previously allowed me to understand the considerations and risks that guide decision making in field acquisition and development. I applied these skills to the evaluation, re-evaluation and generation of CAPEX estimates for the development studies on:• A greenfield, heavy oil, North Sea development.• A high temperature, high pressure, gas field, tying-back to an existing facility• An additional appraisal well in a West African oil field. My second placement was with the Murchison decommissioning project. Based within the contractor’s offices at Aker Solutions, I was part of a team overseeing the topsides decommissioning services contract. Through aiding this team I gained experience of the complexities of managing a decommissioning project and the contractor client relationship.Industry Specific QualificationsI produced a disposal of surplus materials strategy, initiated the sale of several items of surplus inventory and participated in both HAZOP and SAFOP processes.
