My position was recently created as The Alaska Center expands its reach to include efforts to engage more Alaskans and amplify Alaskan voices in the democratic process. I will be working with youth from Anchorage and across Alaska to encourage civic engagement and identify ways we can collaborate to get young people excited about voting and community change! Excited to be a part of this team and to advance a vision of an Alaska that us young people can be proud of. As a part of the Pioneer Leadership Program (PLP), I lived and took classes with 65 others in my class my first two years at DU. PLP focuses on developing leadership skills in students through self-reflection, identification of personal strengths and weaknesses, and group community change projects. I continue to be involved in PLP as a member of Scholar's Board, in which I assist with event planning and application reading. Divest DU is a student group calling on the University of Denver to to divest its endowment from fossil fuels and reinvest in green energy and climate change solutions. As an Internal Coordinator, I oversaw leadership development, media, and coordination with the Divestment Student Network. During my time, I helped a movement that had little leverage with the administration gain the support of student groups, faculty, and more than 1700 students. Although the University refused to divest, they reallocated $5 million dollars toward sustainability efforts on campus and is engaging in a full-scale restructuring of the Center for Sustainability.

The Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition (FCAC) is a grassroots organization creating connections between youth, nonprofits, green businesses, political leaders, Alaska Native leaders, and faith groups in order to advance a vision of a more sustainable, more equitable Fairbanks. Through a fellowship with 350.org, I was able to return to my hometown for a summer to hone my skills in community organizing and coalition building. I built a website and email infrastructure, created media, and helped organized FCAC events.
