Americorps is a National Community Service Organization. My responsibilities as a member includes leading small group instruction for four periods per day. Tutoring 6th and 7th grade students in English Language Arts and Mathematics while creating lesson plans that aligned with Common Core State standards. Some of this work includes modifying lessons for certain skill levels, assisting teachers with classroom structure while working closely to specific students with Individualized Education Plans that needed extra support in and outside of the classroom. I love this work because I have been able to give back to the youth while encouraging them to be the leaders of tomorrow.

    • Summer Camp Counselor
      • Jun 2014 - Aug 2015

The lead camp counselor position at Rita Bright Family Youth Center consisted of providing campers with daily enrichment activities in math and reading and extracurricular activities, while making it a safe and memorable summer for them. Throughout the 6 week program, some of our focus area's included health and fitness, community service, culture, and different experiences for our kids. We gave all campers many opportunities to learn new things, gain new friends, while being a service to other people in the community. All camp counselors were responsible for maintaining order within the program on field trips and time spent in the building, keeping structure, meeting deadlines, and overall making it a safe environment for families. I had the opportunity to supervise other employees ages 17-24 while working closely with 6 & 7 year olds.
