  I am a life-long learner with a background in curriculum and design, differentiated instruction, school management and educational leadership. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and completed my Master’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado. I I earned my K-12 Principal license from the Colorado Department of Education. I believe that every child can reach their highest potential if they are challenged and engaged. I believe that providing students with a common core of educational and character values will result in high academic achievement and strong academic growth. I co-founded North Star Academy (NSA), a John Irwin School of Excellence, and Core Knowledge charter school in Parker, Colorado. I spent over two years researching and developing the school's mission and multi-faceted programs, taking into account parent and community feedback. I implemented a rigorous curriculum, earning awards for high academic achievement and academic growth. I developed clearly defined goals based on data, mission and vision statements and spent that last 20 years as a teacher, Curriculum Director, Dean, Assistant Principal and Principal. I helped develop a strong middle school, and as a team, received the John Irwin School of Excellence Award and the Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award. I successfully managed a healthy financial budget and was involved in the day to day financial operations of North Star Academy. I assisted in the development of NSA's Character Education program and helped NSA receive a prestigious 2013 National Character Education award; the only charter school in the nation to be honored in 2013. I spent over a year researching foreign language programs and collaborated with a National ACTFL Consultant to develop a district recognized model foreign language program. Show less
