    • Roustabout / Safety Training Specialist (STS)
      • Apr 1997 - Jan 1999

As a Roustabout, I was part of a 5 member team (4 Roustabouts, 1 Crane Operator) led by a supervising Crane Operator. First and foremost, a Roustabout's duty is to aid the Driller and Roughnecks on the rig floor in whatever procedure is necessary for the task of the day. Other duties included the cleaning, washing and painting of both the exterior of the rig and inside the hull, when necessary. Roustabouts helped the Derrickman with the mixing of chemicals for drilling and any repairs necessary at any location on the rig. Often we would help either the Welder, Electrician or Motorman perform their duties, when needed. As a Safety Training Specialist (STS), I worked in conjunction with the Rig Manager being responsible for the safety of all crew members onboard (27 member Noble Drilling crew, visitors and service crews). As STS, my daily responsibilities included aiding the Rig Manager in conducting daily safety meetings prior to both crews starting their shifts. Also, conduting a brief orientation of the offshore environment dealing with prime safety issues for visitors to the rig. Other duties included the inspection and replacement (and purchase) of fire extinguishers, lifeboats and their contents, ordering and inventory of safety equipment and conducting rig fire drills with the fire teams who are trained in extinguishing fires in the marine environment.
