  In 1996, I joined in IBM Research - China after earning my Ph.D degree. Currently, I am a Senior Technology Staff Member (technical title) and a Senior Manager (business title) of IBM Research - China. I directly report to the lab director. During the past 25 years, by collaborating with number of famous researchers from IBM Research global labs, my work is mainly around the research and development of HLT (human language technology) technologies, major achievements include the success of Mandarin ViaVoice which was the first speaker independent and continuous speech dictation system in the world, Real Time Translation Service (RTTS), Text Visualization, and Psycholinguistic, etc. Besides the above, I also used to lead Cognitive Healthcare group of IBM Research - China, drawing on over a decade of healthcare-specific data analytics expertise, develop IBM's cognitive decision supporting system on the diagnoses, treatment, and management of chronic diseases. As a senior manager of IBM Research - China, I built a strong skillset on research strategy management, lab operation and communication. Through 25 years of hands-on, I acquired a deep understanding on research strategy development, project execution, and effective measurement of impact. I have been invited to deliver research management consulting service to SOEs or POEs on how to establish, operate and manage a research institute. As a representative of IBM Research – China, I have frequently been assigned to highlight the most recent progress of AI, machine learning and deep learning in import technical conferences and forums. On client engagement related activities, I took charge of the communications with lab director and other supporting business units, to make sure projects’ successful progress. I am one of the vice-presidents of National Man-Machine Speech Communication committee. I used to be a part-time professor of Nankai University. Show less
