      • Assists in PR and marketing plans for nearly all campus events open to the public. This includes writing news releases and announcements to be sent to both local and national media outlets. Interns communicate with faculty and staff, gather pertinent information and conduct thorough research on the topic. Interns are also asked to write poster and ad copy for specific events and campaigns. • Working on the monthly faculty/staff newsletter, The Source. Interns participate in selecting a faculty or staff member to have a featured Q&A on the cover monthly. Interns then conduct research on the faculty or staff member to be interviewed, develop interview questions, conduct the interview, transcribe it into an easy-to-read Q&A format and edit it. In addition, interns write cut-lines for featured photos, write for the “kudos” section which recognizes faculty and staff members’ achievements, and conduct media monitoring for the “In the News” section. • Interns clip local newspapers including the Utica Observer-Dispatch, Rome Sentinel and Herkimer Times Telegram to showcase positive news coverage the college has received. Clippings are kept current and alternate each semester. Interns also use the media monitoring platform Meltwater to analyze the sentiment (positive, negative or neutral) of UC’s media coverage overall. • Constructs a document of the students that make the Dean’s List and Dean’s High Honors List each semester, the roughly 750 undergraduate students that graduate yearly and the more than 600 graduate students that graduate yearly. • Take photos for stories, events and social media. Assisting the PR team with specialized assignments including news conferences, setting up TV interviews, media training, etc.
