After finding Kelsey through the LaunchCode Apprentice program, I managed and mentored Kelsey for a little over a year and she is an absolute power house of creative and technical skills. Every goal I threw Kelsey's way along the way she crushed. Whether it was getting our UIs looking professional and consistent, getting more engaged in the code review process, and tackling harder subjects like back-end queries and performance testing, Kelsey took each challenge in stride and excelled beyond my beliefs. Kelsey brings energy, excitement, and creativity to anything she sets her mind to, and made for brilliant products (and fantastic demos). Overall, while Kelsey is still new in her career, I see a bright future ahead of her and she will absolutely be an unforgettable asset to whatever team she heads to next.

I’ve worked with Kelsey for a little over a year, when she joined our team as a junior developer. I also had the opportunity to work with Kelsey in a mentorship capacity, and therefore got a front-row seat to see Kelsey’s remarkable growth. Most developers are willing to learn, but Kelsey has a passion for it and makes learning the cornerstone of her job. In her time at Balto, Kelsey improved substantially on the front-end as a React developer while also picking up familiarity with the backend and database that paid dividends. Not only does she accept feedback and use it to improve, but she is also comfortable identifying and voicing concerns. For example, Kelsey pushed hard for a load test to measure our service’s performance. When it was de-prioritized, she made the case that it was a necessity and convinced the team to bring it back into our sprint. Within a week, her load test identified an upcoming outage and allowed us to scale up our services proactively to compensate. Kelsey also took on various responsibilities above and beyond her role, such as taking the lead on ensuring that our team’s work aligned with that of the design team. This work, which is beyond the scope of a typical junior developer, saved countless hours of meetings and rewrites to make sure the team delivered under a tight deadline. Overall, Kelsey’s desire for learning is contagious and she will be a great addition for any team. I would recommend Kelsey for any front-end or full-stack role.

The Smoothie Bar Manager
-
Dec 2015 - Jan 2018
As The Smoothie Bar manager I coordinated the launch of The Smoothie Bar, a new addition to the healthy meals to to business model. I created new menu items, calculated food costs, hired and trained a team, created day-to-day processes, and worked with other leaders within the company to increase profits, create company culture, and provide top-notch customer service. During my time at fit-flavors I also created an application within Google Sheets that calculated how many of each meal should be cooked each day, automating a task that took the CEO hours to do daily by hand.
