As a research assistant in Northwestern's Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory I have gained an in depth understanding of how sleep and memory interact. While assisting graduate students on their studies I have learned to operate EEG technology, analyze brain wave data, score stages of sleep, run participants through a study and draw meaningful results from collected data. I have also been given the opportunity to design my own research project that combines two methods of memory enhancement to further improve memory during sleep. Through this experience I have written a successful grant proposal, learned basic computer programming and gained insight into the complexities of the research process. Show less

Research Study Coordinator

Apr 2016 - May 2017
In this position I had the opportunity to see studies through from start to finish. I helped to create study protocols, coordinate with the IRB, recruit and run subjects through various protocols. We ran our studies in the Clinical Research Unit of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, which allowed me to work closely with nurses, doctors and other medical professionals. I coordinated the creation of two studies that both aimed to test a new method of auditory stimulation during sleep. For these two studies I created study documentation, coordinated with the IRB, prepared and ran site visits for our Sponsors, setup REDCap and trained relevant study staff on all study procedures. I scheduled patients in the CRU, processed financial documents, and analyzed data. I often assisted to compile, extract and analyze data to create meaningful graphs and charts used in presentations for study sponsors and other interested parties. For one of the studies I worked on I presented preliminary data at The Lewis Landsberg Research Day this past spring. Show less
