My role was to complete general admin within the office; my main responsibilities were to aid fields men employed by the company in arranging the movements of livestock from breeding units to the finishing units and informing the appropriate people and organisations of the planned movements. I was required to email and fax farmers, hauliers and fields men nationwide in order to provide legal documents to pass onto relative companies. In addition, I was responsible for raising invoices on Excel and inputting into Sage accounting software, raising and posting cheques for a large number of suppliers. I also provided assistance to other team members within the office to ensure that all administration duties required by the company were kept as up to date as possible; these ranged from the inputting of purchase invoices from feed companies which require allocating to one of over 200 farms around the county, to helping dispense medication from our onsite pharmacy as required by the Vets. I was required to manage my own workload and prioritise different jobs in order to complete target deadlines.

    • Dental Nurse
      • Sep 2008 - Dec 2010

My main role as a detail nurse was that I was to assist the dentist with his/her daily duties, to take comprehensive patient notes and to ensure that patient records were kept as accurate and up to date as possible. I was occasionally shadowed by trainee nurses in order to assist them with their learning by demonstrating the daily duties for my role. Within this role I conducted a variety of different tasks besides record keeping, for example; setting up the surgery, passing instruments, ensuring that the surgery is clean for each patient, preparing materials for the dentist during treatment e.g. filling and impression materials and restocking the surgery. I was also required to cover the reception on a weekly basis and complete general administration tasks, including appointment making, managing the diaries of four Dentists within the practice, and liaising with hospitals to confirm outpatient referrals. I was also required to maintain compliance with the necessary health and safety procedures within the waiting room and public areas as set out by the HSE. I felt most competent within an admin environment; therefore I decided to pursue a career with a more permanent administration role.

Through this job I became more confident with a wide range of people from all kinds of backgrounds. I regularly worked as part of a team and am still in contact with a majority of the people I worked with. This is a volunteer job I completed once a week as part of my college work. The job involved general maintenance and cleaning of the kennel environment, dealing with a wide range and breeds of dogs involving walking, playing and general care. I was also able to complete invoices for customers and keep records on a computer. This is a volunteer job I completed once a week as part of my college work.
