Teaching 5th grade English Language Arts. Plan activities and instruction for 10-12 year olds. Teaching parts of speech (nouns, verbs, etc... all of them!) and writing techniques (personal narratives, friendly letters, persuasive, and don't leave out the research paper!) I average from 9 to 18 in one classroom (not as bad as inner city, I know). We're required to teach technology skills, how to sit still, how to take a standardized test, how to spell, write (on your own paper and not the desk that tax payers paid for), how to be quiet and sit still and take a standardized test (all 3 at one time to 10-12 year old boys!) -- that's my favorite.We also teach how to behave in certain environments for example, in the classroom, lunchroom, bathroom, playground, hallway, and my favorite on field-trips (then 3-4 of us manage a group of around 46-70 students). We also have to teach them all the above skills and make sure that they've had sleep, a good breakfast/lunch, and that they're loved and this too shall pass!
