ReFood operates a fully integrated collection service for food waste producers; the company offers free advice to local businesses looking to save money on their waste disposal costs and to reduce their environmental impact at the same time. ReFood UK operates two large-scale integrated AD plants; a 160,000 tonnes per year plant in Doncaster and a 120,000 tonnes per year unit at Widnes in Cheshire. Construction is underway on the third ReFood UK plant at Dagenham in East London. The original Doncaster plant was expanded in 2014 and now generates 5MWh of renewable combined heat & power (CHP). Whereas the Doncaster plant generate electricity and heat, the Widnes plant exports refined biogas to the national gas grid for use by local homes and businesses.
