I spent a period of five months working with the Umbrella Foundation in Nepal. Mainly, I worked in one of the orphanages there which housed 50 children aged 4-14. I helped with the daily running of the orphanage, provided care, guidance and play for the children. I taught English classes to the children and the adult Nepali Umbrella staff. After one month, I was asked to take on the responsibility of Volunteer Coordinator, which meant I provided support for other/new Umbrella volunteers, Responsibilities included: An induction - showing them around the seven orphanages, explaining how Umbrella worked. Heading meetings which provided the volunteers with ideas on how to aid the children, lesson plans and teaching tips. Show less
