Family And Consumer Science Teacher
-
2016 - May 2018
As a Family and Consumer Science teacher specializing in Culinary Arts, I design and implement curriculum with students in 10-12th grade. In my first year of teaching, 66% of the students who sat for the KOSSA test (the state's "Career Ready" test) passed. The year before, the pass rate was 12.5%. In addition, I coach the Jr. Chef team. During the 2016-2017 school year, our team made it to the state competition (held at the state fair in Louisville, Kentucky). During the 2017-2018 school year, our team placed second in the district competition. I have also taken students to Louisville to cater a fundraising event held at a local country club. Chefs for Hope is a ProStart fundraiser, and our students benefited from the profits. Show less

Research Intern
-
May 2014 - Apr 2016
Working with the Child Advocacy Center, I designed a research project with the objective of proliferating information on the effects of media reporting on children. I conducted internet-based and library research before interviewing children and families whose trauma was exposed in the newspaper, on television, or online. I was able to work with Frederick County Government's media department to compile my findings into a short video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl2iI3QKLD4).

Student Co-Facilitator
-
Aug 2014 - May 2015
My role was to co-facilitate a weekly group designed to strengthen coping resources for families that have suffered a trauma as well as support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts (specifically for children 0-5 and 11-14). I coordinated with Aramark Services Inc. in providing 15 weeks of meals for participating families.
