Hexham, England I currently drive a variety of vehicles on contracted, service, and scholar routes around Newcastle, Northumberland, County Durham, and Cumbria. My work involves a good deal of forward planning, and being able to think on my feet whilst under pressure. My work involves frequent interaction with the general public, who often come from a range of backgrounds, and adapt my approach accordingly to suit the individual. I am responsible for checking vehicles are safe for use before taking the vehicle for the day, and reporting any defects found before leaving the depot. I often work long shifts of up to 11 hours – including some driving sessions of up to 5½ hours without a break Show less

Practice Manager

Haltwhistle, UK I led the team through a difficult move into refurbished premises, and managed the practice through a difficult time with many local and national changes. I directly managed a team of 11 staff, and co-managed a team of 2 salaried GPs and 3 nursing team staff alongside the Partners. I led on matters relating to IT for the practice and attended and gave input to locality IT strategy. I directly managed a team of 11 staff, and co-managed a team of 2 salaried GPs and 3 nursing team staff alongside the Partners. I led on matters relating to IT for the practice and attended and gave input to locality IT strategy. I started a project to reduce time and financial costs of sending letters by using an electronic mailing alternative. I also revamped the practice website to bring the details more up to date, and to try to give the website a more streamlined look. I was responsible for managing the day to day financial affairs of the practice, including billing, payroll, reconciliation of payments, and liaising with providers the practice provided a private service to. Where possible I looked to make cost savings, and promoted the use of local services where reasonable to do so. I represented the practice in several local meetings, and was an active member of the Hadrian Primary Care Alliance (a local federation of GP Practices) and Northumberland CCG. Practices including ours collaborated on common issues, and worked with the LMC to raise issues which required more attention. I chaired and where necessary took minutes for several weekly meetings including, clinical, administrative, partnership, and significant event meetings, and was responsible for managing complaints and comments from patients. I acted as a liaison between staff and partners and vice-versa when necessary. I worked with local community and other staff integrated into our practice to provide support where possible and to address concerns raised. Show less

My role evolved to include becoming Practice lead for IT, and Information Governance. I looked after the day to day running of practice IT services, and assisted with CCG IT queries/projects as requested. I completed a project to replace the practice telephone system which added significant functionality and benefits including moving from a 0844 number back to a local geographical number, whilst also being able to significantly reduce the overall running cost to the practice. Results from the practice survey taken shortly after its introduction showed a massive improvement in patient satisfaction in being able to contact the surgery easily. I helped to train staff in the electronic dispensing and stock ordering module in SystmOne, and also help plan and introduce the replacement document scanning/management module to the practice. I looked for opportunities to take on additional services, and evaluate performance of existing services to consider their cost effectiveness, and use to practice population. I developed comprehensive Information Governance, and other practice Policies, training, and a resource library, and acted as key contact for Information Governance issues in the Practice. I worked to improve the marketing of surgery, and set up and oversaw running of the Patient Reference Group, and worked to improve communication with them and the practice population. We worked together to understand problems and areas identified that need attention, and to organise and collate the annual practice survey and required reports. I worked alongside staff and the clinical systems provider to address bugs, limitations, and propose enhancements. I handled patient complaints, specialising in addressing issues in relation to confidentiality and consent. Show less

Swineshead, UK I looked after the IT, QoF, and enhanced service contract information. The practice was some way from realising its potential in relation to QoF, and I worked together with clinical and administrative staff to understand their needs better, improving entry templates, and removing ambiguity, whilst ensuring compliance with QoF indicators. I managed to achieve an improvement of a 50 point improvement in my first year. I created new and updated existing IT and Information Governance policy documents to ensure compliance with Information Governance requirements. The general IT infrastructure was in need of an urgent update, and I worked with the PCT and other Practice staff to help develop a strategic IT plan to secure replacement desktop machines for the practice, pre-configured them specifically for the individual practice environment and installed them with the minimum disruption possible to working practices. I championed a move from the previous CrossCare Healthy clinical system to TPP SystmOne. Show less

I was a key contact for pre/post sales colleagues and Architects, providing assistance whilst on-site during trials and implementations, often at very short notice, and worked directly with strategic customer accounts to foster relationships and incorporate suggestions/requests so that they could better support, and utilise our products. I provided input to Development, and Technical Writing groups in order to improve product quality and supporting documentation, and was the primary contact for web-based technical content for ARCserve Backup for Windows. Reviewed several thousand existing documents, and withdrew or re-wrote as appropriate, and developed new articles, incorporating suggestions from customers and staff into document revisions. This allowed more customers to find the answers to their questions on-line, and gave technicians more time to focus on resolving more complex issues. I developed and presented bespoke training programs for Support staff and Strategic Partners. These included Webcasts, formal presentations, and interactive sessions. I carried out customer site visits in both a pre-emptive capacity, and in high-pressure situations to understand and resolve critical issues. Key contact for the Beta program, carrying out intensive testing of key components of the product previously identified as causing problems for both our Customers and Support. This helped improve quality of the released product, by ensuring that previously identified problems were not carried over into new releases, and that design issues previously identified as being contentious, were addressed (where possible) in the Beta phase. I was regarded as a worldwide subject matter expert for several key areas of the software. Show less

Self Employed

Mar 1998 - Oct 1999
Berkshire/London I worked on several short-term IT support contracts for various private, local, and central government departments on an as needed basis as a self-employed IT contractor within my own limited company. The nature of the business at that time was usually as a troubleshooter to resolve critical issues at short notice.
