Systems Architect and Lead Engineer for all critical infrastructure projects at the Office of the Secretary of Defense - CIO. This environment hosts 8,000 across multiple physical locations. I provided architectural oversight and technical issue escalation for a team of 25 + engineers. For each of the engineering projects, I worked on a daily basis to help in the creation of Design/Test/Install/Migration plans in addition to assisting in most of the technical implementations. I was personally responsible for the final approval of designs and overall quality prior to transition to the operations division. Most implementations required full redundancy and the ability to fail over to remote sites for disaster recovery purposes. All projects were required to exceed expectations and business requirements in addition to meeting all DISA/DoD security guidelines. Projects have included: - Enterprise VMWare 4.0 HA Clusters with DRS supporting over 900 virtual machines- Fully redundant vSphere ESXi clusters with DRS, Host Profiles, DPM and distributed switching- Enterprise Citrix XenApp for Remote Access and Application Hosting- Consolidation of Enterprise File, DHCP and Print Services- Deployment of Secure DMZ topology for hosting externally accessible sites and services- Enterprise Test and Development Topology- Implementation major production technologies (i.e. AD, Wins/DNS, Exchange, SQL, Terminal Services, Netbackup, ISA, F5 BigIP, Citrix, DFS, vRanger, Virtual Center, Solarwinds, Quest RMAD/Intrust, Veritas/Microsoft geo-graphic clustering) - Windows 2008 R2 Domain upgrade and migration- Migration of 6500 WHS users/groups- SMS to SCCM migration- Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 to SCOM 2005 migration- SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise Clusters implementation as a service Show less

Lead systems engineer responsible for all operational activities required to support the enterprise infrastructure at the Office of the Secretary of Defense - CIO office. In addition to management duties, the main requirements of this position were to provide technical leadership, the final point of escalation for all technical issues and migration of new technologies. I was also responsible for ensuring all systems maintained the proper levels of performance, uptime and security. The architecture includes over 700 servers located at several geographically disparate locations. The systems hosted Enterprise level services (i.e. email, file, database and web) and organization specific applications. This infrastructure was redundant locally and geographically in case of disaster. A total of 8,000 customers were directly supported with the following services.- Systems Management - Monitoring provided by Microsoft Operations Manager, HP Openview and Concord. - Messaging - Global Veritas Clusters with remote failover capabilities, Blackberry wireless services and Borderware SMTP Gateways.- Domain services - Microsoft Active Directory with integrated DNS, WINS, DHCP, DFS and Big IP 3Dns devices. - Virtualization – Support of multiple ESX 3.5 HA clusters across different classifications. Approximately 50 % of the environment was virtualized.- Storage and BDR - Critical systems back-ended onto several EMC Symettrix devices (externally supported). Backup and restore through a combination of ADIC i2000, Adic Pathlight VX, BCVs and Veritas Netbackup. File/Print services hosted on Global Veritas Clusters.- Applications - Microsoft SQL server clusters, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft ISA, Citrix, Quest Migrator, Remedy, Intrust for Events, Websense and many others.- Systems Processes- Numerous standard procedures were created and implemented - Customer Notifications and Escalations, 24x7 monitoring and Troubleshooting SOPs, etc... Lead Engineer for AFPCA (Air Force Pentagon) Server Infrastructure Re-engineering. AFPCA supports approximately 8,000 customers across the National Capitol Region with server resources (450+) distributed across numerous equipment rooms in the area. A major project was created as the culmination of several Department of Defense, Air Force, and AFPCA requirements. This project had a total budget of $4 million. The overall AFPCA server count went from over 450 to 180 production servers. The last three months prior to transfer to operations had uptime of 99.997%. I acted as lead engineering and providing over-site for the entire project in additional to acting as the primary engineer for Messaging and File/Print portions. The program included the following specific technologies and activities: - Active Directory Services: A new empty root was established to host external organizations. Legacy domains were upgraded and attached to the empty root or consolidated. - Messaging: Upgraded from Exchange 5.5 and consolidated onto eight Exchange 2000 machines (with Active/Passive clustering). Installed MIIS for Gal Synchronization. - Enterprise Storage: Full testing was completed for system integration with EMC Symettrix unit to provide real-time replication to a remote location. - File and Print Services: Data was migrated from NetApp NAS units and 50 NT file servers onto five active/active clusters. - Systems Monitoring and Configuration Management Suite: HP Openview Operations for Windows, Enterprise Configuration Manager and SMS 2.0. - Database Services: Consolidated over 25 disparate SQL environments to a single Microsoft SQL 2000 environment (Active/Active clustering). - Thin-Client Remote Access Services: Citrix MetaFrame XP with Microsoft Office and Outlook. As a Systems Engineer at AFPCA (Air Force Pentagon), I designed and implemented numerous Infrastructure and Applications projects. AFPCA supports approximately 8,000 customers across the National Capitol Region with server resources (450+) distributed across numerous equipment rooms in the area. Below is a list of my major accomplishments: - Intranet/Extranet Web System Design: The topology utilized Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft IIS 4.0, Microsoft Site Server 3.0, Microsoft Index Server 2.0, Cold Fusion 4.51, custom ASP pages and Microsoft OWA5.5. This system provided a world-wide accessible web interface to download/upload files from Pentagon internal file, access internal email systems and the ability to search all internal file/e-mail servers. The server topology was fully redundant utilizing multiple front-end web servers and a Cisco local director @ 2 million page views per month. The system was scrutinized and approved for security by the US Air Force Information War Center who was unable to penetrate the system during a 2-week intensive system audit and attack. - SMS 1.2 Support and Engineering: Supported the existing implementation of SMS 1.2 Server and SQL Server 6.5. Responsible for pushing installation packages to clients, troubleshooting related issues and maintenance of database health/ performance. Show less
