Keith Bova is an outstanding public safety director and chief who I have had the pleasure of working with for nearly 10 years at D’Youville University in Buffalo. During his tenure, I have been impressed with Keith overseeing the substantial growth and improvement in public safety at the university. As a faculty member at D’Youville for over 20 years, I have witnessed a major transformation in the number, quality and professional caliber of public safety officers that D’Youville has employed under Keith’s leadership and training. The increased presence of them and their services to the D’Youville community is notable. From the well coordinated locations and visibility of public safety officers during daily campus operations and special events, to the increase in resources such surveillance equipment and the operations of campus safety vehicles covering D’Youville’s campus footprint, D’Youville’s campus security has never been safer in my career. Over the past 9+ years I have had the great pleasure of working with Keith on numerous occasions. Such occasions have included campus-wide public safety trainings (active shooters, etc.), responding to questions regarding policies and municipal laws, and even consulting on specific student safety issues that have arisen among students I mentor or in my courses. Keith and his staff have even been a tremendous help to me as consultants for internship placements for students in my major (psychology) who have been trying to secure internship placements in the Western New York law enforcement community. Keith has demonstrated an ability to foster connections and collaborate with both university constituents and relevant legal and law enforcement agencies outside of D’Youville’s campus. Indeed, I believe that among Keith’s greatest attributes are his integrity and approachable character – traits that have enabled him to build and maintain strong relationships with varying levels of staff and made him one of the most respected members of the D’Youville community. I believe that Keith has consistently demonstrated the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to be an excellent public safety director. In my experiences with him he has demonstrated the utmost professionalism and a deep understanding of community laws and multiples facets of public safety. Beyond developing, updating and implementing security policies and procedures, Keith and his public safety team have been outstanding in their communications and timely responses to safety issues that have occurred on campus, and keeping the campus community updated regularly on risks and public safety tips. In closing, I am confident that Keith Bova would be an asset to any organization. His professionalism yet personable charater and his proven track record in overseeing the major improvements and quality of services in D’Youville’s public safety efforts are the reasons why I so highly recommend Keith. Sincerely, Todd J. Walter, PhD
