Make a Difference is an award-winning, 11-year old non-profit organisation that mobilizes young leaders to ensure equitable outcomes for children in shelters. As of today Make a Difference works with over 5000 children living in 72 shelter homes in 23 cities across 14 states in India. Make A Difference's team of more than 4000 Fellows, mentors and teachers deliver a holistic range of interventions aimed at helping children transition from shelters into the real world in a way that breaks the poverty cycle, and achieving stable long-term outcomes. We do this via three broad intervention strategies that ensure holistic development and support:1. Empower children through better emotional health, life skills, exposure, educational support, transition readiness, and aftercare.2. Improve the ecosystem around them by driving better practices among the institutions that directly affect their lives; primarily shelters, schools, family, state and society.3. Enable the sector through better data, sharing knowledge and building coalitions and networks.MAD's Communications, Campaigns and Outreach Team is responsible for enabling MAD’s impact by supporting the mobilization of young leaders through national campaigns, the web, online and offline engagement, and the production and dissemination of communications and collateral. The team is also responsible for supporting fundraising by driving recognition, production of collateral, visual media reporting and media relations. Finally the team supports the Programme teams in delivering and showcasing impact through recruitment materials and collateral, and by raising social awareness through online and offline campaigns. The team also manages brand consistency, presence and experience at MAD, through a team of Fellows and Volunteers across the country.

Storyteller was designed to provide performing arts education to the underprivileged kids in shelters and slum communities. A customized leadership development program for arts graduates using the teaching as a leadership module. The aim was to build a team of leaders who would guide and train the youth in performing arts through a customized curriculum which would enable freedom of expression, artistic critical thinking and equip them with skills necessary to take ownership of their life path by following their dreams. As the founder I worked hands on from ideation to designing the pilot for the program. I was able to draw detailed customer profiles/analysis and use the Human centric design to create an El sistema inspired curriculum. I also worked with CCL (Center for Creative Leadership, Greensboro, NC) in developing a leadership training module for the prospective fellows in order for them to deliver the best and also reflect on a good takeaway from the program. I was able to present the business plan in HQ Raleigh, the startup community in Raleigh and work with the founders on development. The vision was to provide a platform for all students irrespective of their social status to learn arts. The organization also was focused on encouraging the youth to pursue careers in arts since 75 % of arts students do not pursue a career in the same field. Arts help students by providing them with a skill and a path that would change their way of life and also creates a space for expression. Almost 65% of the kids in the slum communities in India suffer from some form of trauma or abuse. It has been medically proved across various studies that arts help fight against depression and PTSD.

Tulalens is social startup based out of San Francisco with operations in Chennai, TN working to tackle Iron Deficiency among women aged 18 - 35 living in the slums of India. As the director of operations, I was in charge of the delivery of the service, data analysis and interpretation and training the community health advocates. In the short period I worked with them, I redesigned the operational strategy into a more sustainable process using Human centric design and design thinking methods. I was also able to increase the client numbers and recruit full time community health advocates. Through this experience I was able to gain a good perspective of running a social startup in India. It also gave me a good perspective of the other problems surrounding kids in the families and health issues that affect these adolescent kids and their family

My experience with Leadership exChange was an eye opener. Working with the start-up community in HQ Raleigh gave me a solid insight to the entrepreneurial world. I worked with Jessica Porta in setting up S2O, a non profit organization to be based out of Raleigh, NC which would work on empowering victims of trauma especially Human trafficking attain a place of ownership through micro entrepreneurship. Working on S2O from ground zero gave me a clear perspective of starting a non profit, the step by step process of building the organization, setting vision, mission and goals and at the same time constructing efficient work flow structures for better functionality. I was able to build the first look of the website www.survive2own.org completely on my own and set the bylaws and help file the 5O1C3 for the organization. The experience was an inspiring one and has equipped me with skills to build and develop a non profit from scratch.I was also able to draw down my MVP, for my non profit idea for the future. Using the design thinking and lean startup methods I was able to narrow down to a clear Minimum Viable Product that would be tested in the near future. Through customer interviews and analysis I have learnt the importance of expanding or pivoting the idea to narrow down to the most effective solution for the problem we are trying to address. This experience has enhanced my inspiration and passion to work with non profits and bring about a change in the world even more.

My year with Teach For India was an eye-opener to reality. In a challenging responsibility, I had the pleasure of interacting with young budding minds of India hidden in the slums of Pune and chennai. I was asked to mentor all the subjects from Reading comprehension to phonetics to maths and carried it out through the most interactive, playful and efficient methods. Involving dance, music, drama learning was taken to another level. It is surreal when a kid from the deepest parts of the slums of north Chennai pronounces words like "catastrophe" or "environment" in the right manner. I was also able to introduce them to debates, group discussion oration, poetry reading etc. This led to them coming up with anti-smoking and air pollution awareness campaigns in which the kids themselves conducted surveys in their community, created posters and spread the awareness in the most personal way. Leader is one who acts along with his team and not just one who directs, I had so many leaders in the class ardently serving their community in the smallest ways with their tiny hands and couldn't have been more proud. I t made me realise that leadership is not what you make a person to believe but what a person understands and is aware of and if you are able to leave a sustainable change in even a single person then you are a leader,I was also able to organise along with my team, a district level sports and culturalfest for the teach for India students where they were able to stage their talent and were awarded and applauded in front of their peers an opportunity they wouldn't be able to get otherwise. We were able to not only teach them theory but give them exposure to the activities and opportunities around them, teach them values, and value based education. Through community visits I was able to witness the drawbacks and the level of inequality that exists in various spheres of life. This motivates me to make a change in the society.
