  I began as a kennel worker. As I completed more schooling, I was able to do more technician work. On a typical day of a veterinary technician, I check in surgery patients each morning. I assist veterinarians in exam rooms and gather information about sick patients. I draw blood from patients for blood chemistry tests. I prepare labels and package samples to send to Breathitt. I place IV catheters and administer fluids/medicine. I prep patients for surgery and monitor while they’re under anesthesia. I also monitor their vital signs as they’re waking up from surgery. I help keep a clean work space by spraying out our wet sinks, sweeping up fur, wiping any blood, cleaning kennels, rotating laundry, taking out the trash, cleaning the barns, etc. I dismiss patients at the end of the day. I review after-care and answer any of the owners’ questions. I have experience working with both small and large animals and am open to working at a clinic that specializes in both. I would love to eventually only work with large animals later in life. Show less
