In my role at Aspen Family Community Support Network, I provide support within three group homes to youth aged eleven to seventeen. Through my role as a youth support worker, my duty is to work through a trauma informed lens to provide an effective transition process for the youth that I work with. Many of the youth that I work with have adverse childhood experiences and through my role, I strive to assist each individual in a unique way to support their goals for transitioning out of the group home and into alternative placements such as foster homes, supportive living or back to their paternal home environments. As a youth support worker, I work from a client centered focus to support each individual need of the youth. I have gained experience in working with youth who struggle with addiction, suicidal ideation, self esteem and attachment disorders. Through this role, I have had many opportunities to strengthen and build more skills by being involved in training offered through Aspen such as non-violent crisis intervention, self-harm awareness training, opioid crisis intervention training and more.
