Keane Ahearne is one of our best MChem students at Manchester Metropolitan University. He will graduate in June 2021. Keane carried out his 3rd year project and MChem project under my supervision, from Sept 2019 till June 2021. His project focused on the synthesis of precursors for the construction of nitrogen containing heterocyclic systems. During that period, Keane has been outstanding, enthusiastic and passionate with his project and, in general, with his studies in organic chemistry. Keane is a responsible student, hard worker and very motivated. He is a good synthetic chemist and works well and safely in the lab. He has performed very well during his MChem studies, and made exceptional progress in a complicated project. He has good laboratory skills (including Schlenck techniques and working with moisture sensitive compounds). He has been very engaged with his work and worked very hard to achieve his goals. Keane is a clever person, and he was very good at working independently; he brought new ideas and suggestions into the project. He was also able to asses independently the results of his work and take further steps to make his project progress in the right direction. He actively participated in chemistry discussions in the lectures and in the labs. I am confident Keane is a talented student, and I believe he will be a good researcher.
