I once again travelled to South Africa with Prof. Jeremy Robertson and Prof. Jean-Marc Hero of Flinders University, in collaboration with WEI, at Gondwana Game Reserve. Creating and investigating the effects of large herbivore exclusion on native arthropods, with a focus on insects. We also performed mist-netting and measuring/banding of birds, and game surveys within the game reserve. I worked along side Prof. Jeremy Robertson and a number of other Flinders University students in this role. With guidance from WEI (Wildlife & Ecological Investments), performing vegetation assessments, wildlife transects, and bird counts in both Masebe Nature Reserve and Balule Nature Reserve. Processing and banding endemic birds that had been mist-netted, where I gained experience in handling small species and learning to work efficiently in areas with a large number of endemic mammals.
