Upward Bound is a grant-funded program serving college-bound high school students who are low-income and/or first generation. I have spent six summers working at UB in a variety of roles. For 2 summers I was the Recreation Coordinator, planning and leading camping trips on the weekends. The following summer I was the instructor for the Senior Success Seminar class, teaching rising seniors college readiness skills and helping them prepare for college applications. In my fourth and fifth summers I was a math instructor, planning curriculum and teaching more traditional content (Pre-Calculus and Calculus) and Project-Based courses (Design the Ultimate Packaging; Build a Quaran-Tiny House). In my most recent summer, I mentored students in our Career Explorations program for the remote portion of the summer and planned the curriculum for our in-person Success Seminars. Show less

Middle School Mathematics Teacher

Mt. Blue Middle School is a 6th-8th grade public middle school in Farmington, Maine. I taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics in a looping structure, meaning I taught the same group of students for 2 years. I was the advisor of the Civil Rights Team for 3 years, providing opportunities for students to think and talk about issues related to race, skin color, national origin and ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and religion. DIS is an international school in Daegu, South Korea serving both Korean and international students. In my role, I taught 6th grade Pre-Algebra, 7th grade Algebra, and 10th and 11th grade Pre-Calculus. After the school day, I helped run the Lego Robotics Club, the Board Game Club, and the 5th and 6th grade Basketball teams. I served as a Supplemental Instruction leader for Calculus 1, attending classes and planning supplemental study sessions in the evenings for students taking the course. While collaborating with other counselors, I helped plan and execute wilderness trips with young women ages 8-13, including a short, 2 night tenting excursion and a longer, 7 night canoeing trip. While not on a trip, I helped supervise camp activities including land sports, waterfront activities, arts and crafts, low ropes, and meal times. Additional responsibilities included supervising campers during free time, keeping the living spaces tidy, and staying in cabins with the campers.
