Worked with IOTEM as part of my senior design project at UNB. My team was responsible for designing a control system for an IMTA (integrated multi-trophic aquaculture), more specifically a kelp farm. The control system consisted of a passive system which protected the farm from severe weather events and an active system which maintained the optimal growth depth of the kelp as well as remotely monitor the farm. My responsibilities on the project consisted of: - Meeting with the client, identifying requirements and coming up with the corresponding engineering specifications. - Designing the active control system to maintain the optimal growth depth of the crop based on pressure sensor data. - Designing a solar power system for the active control system, sensors and microcontroller. - Designing an embedded system to remotely monitor the farm by collecting data from a pressure sensor and a load cell which were sent to a secure web server for observation through the MQTT protocol and SSL/TLS. - Implementing a harvesting alert system via email to notify the farm operator when the crop is ready for harvest through the SMTP protocol. - Constructing a scaled down prototype of the kelp farm and control system based on the Wi-Fi enabled ESP32 microcontroller which was successfully tested in the fluid lab at UNB. - Writing technical reports. Conducted a research project on the widespread harmonic distortion caused by electric vehicle chargers with a focus on the power quality of the grid. Prepared a detailed report along with simulations and successfully presented my findings to management. Also worked on miscellaneous tasks to satisfy the needs of Saint John Energy. Field work was also performed. Conducted a research project on the widespread harmonic distortion caused by electric vehicle chargers with a focus on the power quality of the grid.
