Kavinda was my student in the final year capstone unit ‘Interdisciplinary Industry Project for Sustainable Development Solutions’ in the Master of Environment and Sustainability in 2019. In this unit, Kavinda was tasked to work on a consultancy project in partnership with Australia Post, and in an interdisciplinary team of five students. This unit is demanding as it requires the application of academic knowledge and method to real-life problems, the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team over several months, liaising with an industry partner/client (incl. regular meetings and delivering presentations), and project management. He was an excellent student, a hard worker and independent thinker. He showed a great degree of professionalism over the course of the project, and the ability to creatively problem-solve. I have no doubt Kavinda will continue to thrive in his career.
David Robertson
Kavinda was a highly motivated student - it was obvious that learning, reflection and thinking carefully about issues were an ongoing process for him, rather than a means to an education-specific end. What particularly impressed me was Kavinda's immersion in the highly intercultural and diverse cohort in the course, and willingness to challenge even deeply held beliefs and assumptions. This kind of attitude is, I believe, essential to roles in sustainability and other industries in which building relationships and crossing boundaries are needed to address problems and make progress - something I hope Kavinda can lead as his career continues.
