December 16, 2021 To whom it may concern, Katy La Plante is a peer of mine from National University. She and I are both in the process of completing our Masters of Teaching and earning our teaching credentials. Through class discussions I have gotten to know more about Katy. Not only have I learned what her career goals and aspirations are, but I’ve also gotten to witness her dedication and hard work to the field of education. She is truly passionate about creating a welcoming, inclusive, and fun environment for her students. Her philosophy is to teach to each learner’s style with a minimal amount of stress and provide lifelong tools for success, such as tips and tricks for self-regulation and self-management. Ms. La Plante is all about nurturing her students and providing a safe and inclusive environment for students to learn and grow in. Katy recognizes the value in grouping students in various ways in order for students to build meaningful bonds and relationships. Because Katy has such strong interpersonal skills, I can imagine that she would demonstrate these same skills to her students, and they will do the same unto others. Katy inspires me to be thoughtful, creative, and organized. I really admire how composed and thorough she is when she responds to prompts. Every part of the topic is addressed, and she speaks in such a confident and articulate manner. When explaining an activity or idea, Katy is very detailed, which makes it easy for others to picture what she is talking about. Her students and co-workers are sure to appreciate this trait of hers. They are also sure to enjoy how hard-working she is. Quality work is something Katy is known for. Her responses and posts are always well thought out, and you can tell she is really invested in the conversations she partakes in. Assets of Katy’s include reliability, integrity, and personability. I really appreciate how she takes time to record and write down thoughtful and useful responses to peers. It makes others feel valued and shows just how interactive and engaged she is. I would highly recommend Katy for any teaching position of her choosing. She has the skills, knowledge, drive, experience, and spirit for the field, and any school would be lucky to have her. With such a gifted individual on their team, a school with Katy is sure to be a success! Sincerely, Sabrina Cruz

William Marzolla

William Marzolla 265 Bethany Drive Scotts Valley, CA 95066 530-575-1242 To Whom it May Concern, Katy LaPlante worked for 1.5 years at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center under my direct supervision. Katy worked at the APJCC as a Personal Trainer, Fitness Desk Attendant, Group Exercise Instructor, and Nutrition Coach, and excelled in all of these positions. The Fitness Center that she worked in was a fast-paced environment that required her to be self-motivated and wear many different hats. As her former Fitness Director with over 40 direct reports, Katy shines vividly in my memory as one of my best hires to date. Katy is highly intelligent, hard-working and personable. When she first started working for me, I didn’t have any guaranteed hours or clients for her, but as a testament to her work ethic, her schedule filled up fast with clients and regular shifts. As a trainer, Katy was responsible for keeping her own training schedule, giving fitness orientations to new members, charging her clients, selling packages of training to prospective clients, and helping to maintain the fitness center. Katy gained new clients quickly and maintained these clients because she was always on-time, positive, professional, wrote creative workouts, gave very good coaching cues, and was good at matching clients’ energies and personalities. She was able to uniquely adapt exercises and workouts to clients of varying abilities, fitness levels and health considerations, which was a skillset that also allowed her to teach successful Group Exercises classes in a variety of formats. Katy was also paramount in helping me pioneer a brand new Nutrition Department several months before the pandemic shelter-in-place. Her insight, expertise and professionalism created a lot of traction for the department. Katy also showed a great deal of promise as a Fitness Desk Attendant as well. Katy was very quick to learn our complicated club management software and several other computer programs to help other trainers with buying and redeeming personal training sessions. In addition to cleaning and assisting first responders with injured members, Katy was responsible for creating personal relationships with the members to foster a positive experience on the fitness floor. All of the members loved Katy, and she was very skilled at calming upset members. Katy was the first to volunteer to sub shifts and helped me out countless times with last minute sub requests. Having Katy on my staff made my life so much easier. I know that Katy has a bright future, and given her great intelligence, sensitivity, and work ethic, I know that she will make a great addition to your organization. I give Katy my highest recommendation, and very much hope that her application be judged favorably. Sincerely, William Marzolla Former APJCC Fitness Director, Personal Trainer, Group Ex Instructor
