I was thrilled to be elected Chair of a Society which I was passionate about growing. After a member increase of 25%, I have developed the Society academically and socially. I give our 150 members volunteering, learning, mentoring and fundraising opportunities, as well as organising cultural events and social nights to ensure they integrate as a group. I've learnt to balance smaller budgets and maximise profits, but still keeping interest levels high and providing a safe and fun atmosphere in which people can appreciate the French culture. In the summer, I prepare food on the beach for the busy season, and in the winters when I was in Bournemouth during term-time, I waited on tables after sports matches and cleaned the facilities. In the last few years, I've been given the responsibilities of balancing the tills, being a key-holder, opening and closing the facilities before and after shifts and training up new members of staff. I have learned skills of quick problem-solving in the face of clients, excellent customer service, food preparation and hygiene.
