Chair of the French Society
-
Apr 2015 - Sep 2016
I was thrilled to be elected Chair of a Society which I was passionate about growing. After a member increase of 25%, I have developed the Society academically and socially. I give our 150 members volunteering, learning, mentoring and fundraising opportunities, as well as organising cultural events and social nights to ensure they integrate as a group. I've learnt to balance smaller budgets and maximise profits, but still keeping interest levels high and providing a safe and fun atmosphere in which people can appreciate the French culture. For example, our latest social was a Wine Night, which saw a turnout of 100 people, 10 new members and went down a great success. Show less

This involves booking venues, health and safety checks, event management, coordination among 20 societies and the management of a committee of 8 people.

Academic Rep, Peer Mentor and Fresher's Crew
-
Sep 2014 - Sep 2015
I am devoted to improving the environment around me, but only in a way that ensures teamwork and productivity. Being a member of the Student-Staff Liaison Committee allowed me to influence important discussions about University life, not only in my department, but on the wider scale. I was proactive in collating the opinions of my students together and indignant in representing them, in a non-biased way, at Council meetings. My enthusiasm for support and communication led to me getting placed as Peer Mentor and Fresher's Crew. I want to ensure that those less experienced can have a safe and fun experience where they feel encouraged and supported. I learned the balance of giving emotional and practical support and friendship while still ensuring that behaviour did not get out of hand. Show less

As this job is divided up seasonally, it has allowed me to learn a diverse range of new skills. In the summer, I prepare food on the beach for the busy season, and in the winters when I was in Bournemouth during term-time, I waited on tables after sports matches and cleaned the facilities. In the last few years, I've been given the responsibilities of balancing the tills, being a key-holder, opening and closing the facilities before and after shifts and training up new members of staff. I have learned skills of quick problem-solving in the face of clients, excellent customer service, food preparation and hygiene. I have always been keen to maximise profits and sell and serve our as efficiently as possible. Show less

May 2010 - May 2010
I was responsible for assisting and leading a diverse range of classes, from sport, to history, from year 7, to GCSE. I learned how to lead larger groups of people and encourage students in their education. I was able to use my skills in music technology and IT software in the Computing Services department, and researched my own lesson plans for certain classes. Improving my skills of pro-activeness, I managed any dissatisfactory behaviour from the students according to the disciplinary rules the school had established. Show less
