My collection of clothing and linen throws are all hand-dyed, sampled and produced in my studio. My mission is to create timeless pieces that do not adhere closely to a specific trend or season rather focusing on simple, relaxed silhouettes that complement and showcase the hand-dyed pattern. I believe in the future-is-handmade, a thoughtful practice of creating items to order with select pieces in limited stock, to reduce textile waste and to keep the use of natural resources down. I use natural materials like silk to cotton and buy from USA and sustainable resources when possible.Buy something you love, wear it forever and know your clothes were hand-dyed and produced by me in upstate NY.In addition to creating my own designs I teach Japanese Shibori at the Garrison Art Center and have taught at the Textile Arts Center in NYC and at organizations such as the Japan Society in Manhattan.

WEAR UPSTATE by Katrin Reifeiss, a label designed, handcrafted & inspired by upstate living. Created out of a desire for beautiful & wearable designs each hand-dyed piece is a limited-edition numbered design. Using fabric like cotton gauze & linen to dyes such as natural marigold petals & indigo, the first collection of limited-edition pieces was created. Each piece is named after a female comedian or singer who performed in the Catskill region during the heyday of the Catskill Resorts.sewn & dyed in the Hudson Valleywear often, repair if possible, pass on or recycle when no longer lovedwearupstate.com

I teach Japanese Shibori techniques at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn and NYC. I also teach Shibori workshops at such locations as the Japanese Society in Manhattan and at local shops like By Brooklyn on Smith Street in Brooklyn.Shibori is a Japanese shaped-resist dye process. To produce the unique designs, the cloth is shaped and then secured in various ways before dyeing. Shibori gives fabric a three-dimensional form by folding, crumpling, stitching, plaiting, or plucking and twisting. Shibori is not tie-dye; with Shibori the dyer works in concert with the materials, to give them full expression.Spontaneity is the magic of Shibori, made possible by exploiting the beauty of things that happen when dye enters shaped cloth. In addition to teaching Shibori I have also taught classes on working with indigo, acid and fiber reactive dyes.
