I worked with Katrien within an Agile environment at Cegeka and found her a superb colleague and worker. Can highly recommend her.

Shaza H.

As day to day supervisor for Katrien for her Graduation project, I found her responsible and self motivated. She was reliable, and reported back on any step we discussed to be done. I clearly remember at one time, because of scale of the traffic map, it was difficult to draw concrete conclusions. She broke down the map into parts and conducted experiments. This made it easy to adapt the project goal according to our experience. Overall I enjoyed working with her, and wish her best for life ahead.

As an applications manager, I'm in the first place responsible for helping the current platforms of Renta Solutions evolve with the leasing and automotive market. This includes identifying, collecting and investigating potential change requests, discuss them with the end users, and, once they are approved, plan them to be implemented. Keeping the end user documentation up-to-date is also my responsibility. My job also includes follow-up of any bugs identified in the system, from the discovery till the deploy of the bug fix.Next to that, I also help new partners to get integrated with our platform: giving them a first introduction, answer their questions, follow up their tests and help them going live. And last but not least, I'm also involved in the start-up of new projects that will grow to one of our new platforms.

Starting from the first of May I divide my time between giving support and developing (the job for which I was initially recruited). I'm gaining experience in widely-used technologies such as Hibernate, Web Services, XSD, XML, Spring, Maven, CQRS and many more. In the meanwhile I'm staying available for doing proxy work when this is more urgent than developing. I'm, for example, also responsible for giving user trainings to both the leasing companies (one of the user groups using our system) and the service desk (where they receive calls for help from the second user group, the suppliers/garages/tyre centres). Furthermore, I was involved in writing the scenario for the e-learning course for the suppliers (the course is organised for the employees of 2000 garages!) and in editing a user manual for the leasing companies. My flexibility (in combining the two roles of both being an analyst and being a programmer), my extensive knowledge (both functional and technical) and my close cooperation with the customer are important assets to the project. Since the 23th of September, the new ROB platform, now called MRT (https://mrt.rentasolutions.org), is up and running. Starting from then, I'm also active in giving second-line support to users signalling problems or bugs, in fixing these bugs and in building new (additional) functionality for the platform.

I started working at Cegeka’s Software Factory in October 2012, immediately after finishing my studies. After a month of training, I was assigned to the Renta project, where we are rebuilding the ROB platform, an IT platform which is used by garages/tires centres to ask approval at the leasing companies for activities on leasing cars. Our task was to rewrite the old platform (built in MAGIC) in a newer programming language (Java) and making improvements where possible. Because I wanted to taste from the functional side of a project, I started as a Business analyst (called Proxy Customer at Cegeka). My initial focus was mainly on the study of both the functioning and the implementation of the automatic approval rules, which were applicable in the old system (this was necessary because there was almost no documentation provided by the builder of the old platform). After some time, when my experience and confidence in the business had grown, I also started cooperating in the entire proxy process, from writing the user stories, to testing and presenting the newly-developed software to the customer. I also learned to function in an agile development process, in combination with Scrum and XP practices.
